Austria and Italy Recap

Ok I know I’m a little late on posting this because we’ve already been in London for a day but ever since I posted the Paris recap we had been in Austria and Italy. We went to 2 towns in Austria and in between that we took a 2 day trip to Italy.

In Austria we stayed in a cute little village and got coffee and dessert pretty much every day at the bakery. (Avery loved the mini donuts!!) I tried spinatknödle which is a spinach dumpling for the first time and it is amazing!! It tastes a lot like quiche. We ate it with these special noodles and loved it so much that we went online and ordered the special tool so that we could make them at home. Can’t wait to put my cooking skills to the test when we get home! Also in Austria we went to this adventure park thing. It’s a series of obstacles that you have to do but to make it much more difficult and interesting you do all of it 40 feet in the air in the middle of the woods harnessed to wires. I screamed a few times and my arms were ready to fall off but I didn’t slip off once which is not common for girls that do it! The next day muscles I didn’t even know existed hurt! And of course Josh did amazing and finished all the tasks super fast! He’s seriously so amazing at everything he does, it’s crazy! I didn’t think I wanted to do the adventure park because I don’t like heights but I love being adventurous with my husband so I did it and ended up loving it! It’s like a grown up version of the obstacle courses my dad and I used to do as a kid on the playground.

Another thing we did in Austria that I loved was touring the original house of the Trapp family from The Sound of Music! I have loved that movie for so long and it was so cool to go to the actual house that the movie was based on and see where the kids grew up. And I learned so much! Like that the oldest daughter and one of sons Kurt were made up to make the story more interesting. There were 7 kids but none that fit those 2 characters. So the whole romantic relationship with the oldest daughter and the mail boy was made up. And the house in the movie is way bigger than the actual house!

The rest of our Austria trip was pretty relaxing. We went on tons of walks, played at the park, rode bikes, and played doctor a million times with Avery’s new Doc Mcstuffins Doctor kit. We needed that relax time because in between our time in Austria we took a mini trip to Venice, Italy.

I was looking forward to Venice the most because I had always dreamed of going to Italy. We stayed in this super cute country villa outside of Venice that could be in movies! And naturally I had to do a little photoshoot of Avery because the backgrounds were too cute to pass up! As soon as we got into the city the next day we walked around everywhere! The water was so gorgeous and it was like a totally different world! I loved seeing no cars and only cute little boats. All the bridges to cross over the water were so cute. And the weather was so perfect! We ate pizza, shopped, took a long and gorgeous boat ride to an ice cream parlor where without realizing it Josh ordered an ice cream drink thing with alcohol in it. He started drinking it thinking it tasted weird and a lot like raw eggs so he made me take a little sip and it was the worst thing I’d ever tasted in my life! Sure enough there was egg yolk liquor in it. First off YUCK!!! Who would ever make a drink like that?! And second off be careful when ordering dessert drinks in another country! Besides that Venice was wonderful! For sure one of the highlights of my trip!

And now we are in London which is our last stop before going home! Make sure to read my blog next weekend so that you can read all about our London highlights and wrapping up our almost 2 month trip!!

Scotland Recap

On March 7th we started our amazing journey across many countries for 2 months. During these 2 months we will be visiting Scotland, Wales, France, Austria, Italy, and London. Scotland was our first stop and we will be leaving here on Monday. So with our trip to Scotland coming to an end I thought I would give you all a little recap of our trip.

We started off the trip by visiting the grocery store and shopping around stores. Their grocery stores are a lot smaller here! Most are the size of a convenience store. We also found the cutest outfits for Avery (I posted a photo of them on Instagram). The kids clothes here are too cute! People in Scotland for sure spend most of their money on their kids! All the kids here have the nicest strollers, cutest clothes, and fancy coats! We also went to 2 villages here, Callandar and Edinburg.  image We visited an old castle in Edinburg. (The old prison there smelled AWFUL!!) The villages are so small and there’s one church in every village. And we visited a gorgeous Catholic Church. image  We walked around it and of course Avery decided while we were inside of a super quiet church it would be a good idea to scream! Haha thankfully no one was too irritated! image We also drank lots of coffee!! The coffee here is amazing!   They use different cream and it always looks so pretty! The food here is also very different! They have some of the same things but it all tastes different. The cheese is stronger and most of their things have a hint of cow taste to them. I would not consider the food in Scotland being my favorite food of this trip but the chocolate is really good! Avery has been loving the huge kinder eggs with princesses in the them.

Josh has had to work 2 expos while we’ve been here so we’ve been hanging out at the apartment sometimes or walking around the city. It’s pretty cold here and people walk everywhere so we are adjusting to that. Josh and I were able to get in a date to Tick Tock Unlock which was so much fun! It’s this mystery game where you get locked in a room for 1 hour and you have to use all these clues to unlock different things and eventually use the keys and codes to unlock the door. We got to bring out our inner spies haha. From playing that game I learned that Josh is WAY smarter than I am and that we work great together under pressure! We finished with time to spare and we were in the top 10% of people that finish because it is rare to have a group of 2 finish. image

We are now ready for our next adventure in a new country! At the end of our time in each country I’ll be posting a recap of that trip. 🙂 Now I am off to enjoy a piece of chocolate! Have a great day!  image
