Today was Avery’s last session in her swim lessons and it went great! She usually doesn’t like water in her face and is cautious when it comes to water (which we don’t mind at all!). But by the end of the lesson she found confidence in herself knowing that it was ok to get her face wet. And she even went fully under the water once. I asked her before I did it and she said yes! She afterward told us it wasn’t fun but I’m proud of her for not crying or being upset about it. Continue reading
While we were visiting Gatlinburg, TN there was the cutest kid apron ever! It said “Sweet Tea Y’all” and since my blog is “My Cup of Sweet Tea” we just had to take a photo with it.
After taking that picture I was thinking about how much Avery helps me in the kitchen and how much I love it. I think that having Avery help me cook and bake is so important and so much fun. It gives us a chance to do something together that I love doing and it will start to teach her the basics of cooking and baking. I am not a super amazing chef but hopefully she will learn a few things from me. Plus it makes cooking and baking much more enjoyable when I have such a great helper.
And then she found out that marshmallows are in rice crispy treats and got even more excited!
She then insisted on stirring the marshmallows and did a great job at being careful with the hot stove.
And of course she had to sample a few M&M’s to make sure they tasted alright before adding them to our rice crispy treat mix.
Once the M&M’s were approved we added them to the pot and again she wanted to help stir. (Although this time it was a little too hard for her to mix the sticky batter)
Once we put the rice crispy treats in the pan Avery decided we didn’t have enough M&M’s so she sprinkled some more on top.
And Ta Da! Avery was very proud of the dessert she made! She loved them and ate her fair share of them!
It was fun to take photos of Avery making her dessert and I hope it inspires other moms and dads to cook with their kiddos! Oh and the thing that Avery’s standing on while helping me is the best! It’s called The Learning Tower by little partners. The color we have is dark cherry. It’s amazing when Avery wants to help me cook and I don’t have to worry about her falling over in a chair and it adjusts to whatever height your child is.
Hope you enjoyed my blog!
I sing “Making Memories of Us” by Keith Urban a couple times a day to Avery. And it’s always the same part:
“And I’m gonna love you like nobody loves you, and I’ll earn your trust making memories of us” Continue reading
What does being a parent mean? It means you are everything in the world to your child. You are 100% responsible for a human being. You are responsible to raise them up right, teach them about God, show them right from wrong, and take care of all their needs. Continue reading
Today marks 1 year of having my blog up!! It’s crazy that it’s been so long. I feel like I’ve always had it yet started it recently all at the same time. In 1 year a lot has happened! Continue reading
Well tomorrow we head back for the United States and we are all very excited!! 2 months away from home is a really long time! We didn’t realize how much we loved our house and everything we have until we were without it for awhile.
This trip has been a great experience for us Continue reading
Ok I know I’m a little late on posting this because we’ve already been in London for a day but ever since I posted the Paris recap we had been in Austria and Italy. We went to 2 towns in Austria and in between that we took a 2 day trip to Italy.
In Austria we stayed in a cute little village and got coffee and dessert pretty much every day at the bakery. (Avery loved the mini donuts!!) I tried spinatknödle which is a spinach dumpling for the first time and it is amazing!! It tastes a lot like quiche. We ate it with these special noodles and loved it so much that we went online and ordered the special tool so that we could make them at home. Can’t wait to put my cooking skills to the test when we get home! Also in Austria we went to this adventure park thing. It’s a series of obstacles that you have to do but to make it much more difficult and interesting you do all of it 40 feet in the air in the middle of the woods harnessed to wires. I screamed a few times and my arms were ready to fall off but I didn’t slip off once which is not common for girls that do it! The next day muscles I didn’t even know existed hurt! And of course Josh did amazing and finished all the tasks super fast! He’s seriously so amazing at everything he does, it’s crazy! I didn’t think I wanted to do the adventure park because I don’t like heights but I love being adventurous with my husband so I did it and ended up loving it! It’s like a grown up version of the obstacle courses my dad and I used to do as a kid on the playground.
Another thing we did in Austria that I loved was touring the original house of the Trapp family from The Sound of Music! I have loved that movie for so long and it was so cool to go to the actual house that the movie was based on and see where the kids grew up. And I learned so much! Like that the oldest daughter and one of sons Kurt were made up to make the story more interesting. There were 7 kids but none that fit those 2 characters. So the whole romantic relationship with the oldest daughter and the mail boy was made up. And the house in the movie is way bigger than the actual house!
The rest of our Austria trip was pretty relaxing. We went on tons of walks, played at the park, rode bikes, and played doctor a million times with Avery’s new Doc Mcstuffins Doctor kit. We needed that relax time because in between our time in Austria we took a mini trip to Venice, Italy.
I was looking forward to Venice the most because I had always dreamed of going to Italy. We stayed in this super cute country villa outside of Venice that could be in movies! And naturally I had to do a little photoshoot of Avery because the backgrounds were too cute to pass up! As soon as we got into the city the next day we walked around everywhere! The water was so gorgeous and it was like a totally different world! I loved seeing no cars and only cute little boats. All the bridges to cross over the water were so cute. And the weather was so perfect! We ate pizza, shopped, took a long and gorgeous boat ride to an ice cream parlor where without realizing it Josh ordered an ice cream drink thing with alcohol in it. He started drinking it thinking it tasted weird and a lot like raw eggs so he made me take a little sip and it was the worst thing I’d ever tasted in my life! Sure enough there was egg yolk liquor in it. First off YUCK!!! Who would ever make a drink like that?! And second off be careful when ordering dessert drinks in another country! Besides that Venice was wonderful! For sure one of the highlights of my trip!
And now we are in London which is our last stop before going home! Make sure to read my blog next weekend so that you can read all about our London highlights and wrapping up our almost 2 month trip!!
Our time in Paris has come to an end. We are now in Austria! We will be home 3 weeks from yesterday! Going to Paris was a great experience and now I’ll be able to check that off my bucket list! We stayed in a spacious and cute apartment while in Paris which was perfect for us and gave Avery plenty of room to play. The only thing we didn’t like was the size of the elevator to get up to our apartment. It was so tiny that we could barely fit 2 adults plus Avery in there. I’ll have a photo of the elevator at the end of the blog.
The first 3 days we went site seeing and shopping! Our first stop was Sacré Coeur (sacred heart). It was so cool to see the city from the steps and walk inside such a huge and beautiful church. After walking around the church we got the best gelato I’ve ever eaten in my life!! Avery and I shared strawberry gelato and I can still taste how fresh and sweet it was! I already know I’ll be eating tons of gelato in Italy! Then we walked along Champs-Élysées (a shopping strip leading up to Arc de Triomphe). We went to the Disney store for Avery and got her some Doc Mcstuffins toys that she has been playing with non-stop. She has been to the Disney store in every country we’ve been to and always manages to find 1 special thing she loves. Our last tourist stop we had to make was the Eiffel Tower. It was kinda rainy and cloudy that day so we couldn’t see as far out on the city but it was still a cool experience. I’m glad we went the day we did because the next day it was closed because of a riot happening in Paris. Thankfully we were at our apartment cozy and safe.
Josh had to work Thursday-Saturday so Avery, Josh’s mom Stephanie and I did a little bit of shopping and walking around. The expo that Josh was working was busier on Saturday and since it was all guys working the 2 days before they thought having a girl there would help bring in more customers. So I went to work with Josh that day and spoke French as well as I could. I am much better at reading it than I am speaking it!
After working and being gone for a total of 13 hours I was ready to get home to my baby! My heart goes out to moms that have to work outside of their home because I realized how hard it was. Thankfully Avery loved hanging out with “Nannee” (Stephanie) all day. That was the longest time I’ve been away from Avery and I wasn’t a fan of it. It was nice to make extra money and see how well Josh does at his job but working from home and with my Avery Gracie on my lap is what I’m meant to be doing!
Our time in Paris wasn’t very long but we did a lot in the time we had! I am looking forward to staying in a little village in Austria and experiencing there way of life there. No one speaks English in the town we are staying in but luckily Josh speaks a little German!
Onto the next journey in our trip abroad! Look for our Austria Recap next week! 🙂
Tomorrow morning we are leaving Wales and heading to France!! We are taking a ferry over and then will be in Paris on Monday! I am ready for all the bread, chocolates, and coffee!! The second half of our trip is what I’ve been looking forward to the most. Mostly all the yummy foods we will be eating haha.
First off I want you to always know and never doubt how much daddy and I love you. We think you are the most amazing daughter in the world and you will always be our sweet baby girl! 2 years ago you made two 17 year olds parents and changed our lives forever. We were scared that we would mess up and not do things right for you but we quickly caught on to parenthood. We knew that as long as we always put your needs above ours and loved you no matter what that we would be just fine. We’ve kept with that attitude your whole life and I think you are turning out pretty great! You are THE MOST important person to us! With you being 2 I wanted you to be able to read this letter and know what kind of toddler you were like. For starters you have the best sense of humor. You get that from your daddy! You say things in a really high voice and then a really low voice. And you love scaring people and wanting them to scream. You love running around the house being chased. Your favorite toys right now are the bubble guppies bath toys, Mickey Mouse and friends, Nemo and friends, and all your little people. You like putting your toys in time out and calling them “bad boys”. Only daddy can pick your pjs out and it’s a nightly routine that he makes fun and silly. You go almost everywhere with me. I hate driving in the car and not having you to talk to so I just take you wherever I go! You also love talking to people! Whenever we go we get multiple people saying how cute you are and you love smiling at them and saying thank you. Your favorite colors are blue and green. Your favorite foods are tacos, yogurt, toast, Mac and cheese, pears, avocados, fish and anything chocolate. If we even say the words chocolate or m&m’s you freak out and get so excited. You love facial expressions! I can usually tell your mood by the face you are making. You repeat anything and everything we say now. You talk all day long! It’s cute to hear you get your thoughts out and hear your feelings. If you are happy, sad, excited or mad you let the world know! You are so honest, I love it! You say exactly what you feel and if you are feeling a little moody you come cuddle in my arms until you feel better. You randoming come up to me and say “momma hug!” And squeeze me tight! You have no clue but my heart melts inside! We have lots of fun moments together! You also like playing with mommy’s make up brushes while I get ready. Your favorite thing to do with make up is take my thin eyeshadow brushes and sweep them over my eyebrows. You have a great imagination and could play with our stuff for hours! And ever since my birthday you’ve been singing happy birthday to yourself and have been getting so excited for today! We’ve had a lot of fun every day with you. You bring so much joy I go our lives! Mommy prays for you every day! I pray every day for your well being, that you’ll always put God first, and that you’ll continue to keep the glow that’s inside of you. I try every day to set an example for you of what a good mom and wife should look like. You make me a better person! Mommy and daddy love you more than you’ll ever be able to understand. You have brought us more happiness in 2 years than we’ve had in our entire life. In mommy and daddy’s vows we both said “Every day is better because of you”. We feel that way about you too! The amount of love and kindness you have in your heart is overflowing! You are the most extraordinary 2 year old in the world! I love watching you become smarter and grow every single day. Thank you for being 100% you Avery Gracie! Mommy and daddy absolutely love being your parents!
